Mark European Private Heritage Week by exploring the rich architectural heritage of East Galway and the neighbouring counties. 

A day of exploration, examining the rich architectural heritage of East County Galway and the neighbouring county of Roscommon.

The area west of the Shannon and the valley of its tributary, the River Suck, has a rich and little-known architectural heritage, with a wealth of buildings from the ninth to the nineteenth centuries. Monastic buildings, abbeys, friaries and castles, strong houses of the seventeenth century, great country houses (many in ruins), ambitious garden layouts, magnificent stables, grand gates, municipal and public buildings, bridges, canals, nineteenth century fortifications and examples of industrial architecture.

Meet for coffee at Ballinderry Park, and then George Gossip will lead a mystery tour back in time, following one another by car and stopping for an elaborate picnic lunch en-route.
